BREA Brea scored 30 second-half points to upset El Modena, 33-20, in a Century League game Friday at Wildcat Stadium.

El Modena scored on the first play from scrimmage when quarterback Lucas Farrell hit Roger Mujica on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Late in the first quarter a 66-yard touchdown run was negated on a holding call. That seemed to be the theme of the game, penalties.

"Penalties, penalties, all those penalties," Vanguards coach Greg Olquin said. "We got a lot of penalties and didn’t execute. I’ve got to get these kids head out of the sand."

Brea Olinda opened up the third with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Essington to Dakota Hopkins. From there the Wildcats gained momentum.

Two costly special team mistakes sealed the Vanguards fate. A fumbled kickoff return and a blocked punt each gave the Wildcats touchdowns.
