New-look Buena Park gets off to fast start against Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA - Buena Park used a balanced attack on offense and didn’t allow much defensively in a 40-17 season-opening victory over Costa Mesa in a nonleague contest Thursday at Estancia High.
Coyotes quarterback Jeremy Crow completed 8 of 10 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns and running backs Carlos Ponton and Dorian Gibson combined for 158 yards rushing and four scores to lead the attack.

First-year coach Anthony White said the Coyotes' performance could be the start of a new trend at Buena Park (1-0), which has endured several losing seasons.
“We are trying to change things here at Buena Park,” White said, “offensively, defensively and academically.”
The Coyotes scored on all five possessions in the first half.
Ponton’s 1-yard scoring run capped an eight-play, 55-yard opening drive which gave the Coyotes a 7-0 lead.
The Mustangs (0-1) answered right back with an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from DeSean Grayson.
But it was all Buena Park from there.
The Coyotes allowed only one offensive touchdown on a 5-yard run from Mustangs quarterback Nathan Alvis.
But that score came in the fourth quarter after the Coyotes had the game well in hand.
Alvis completed 10 of 16 passes for 95 yards.
