Villa Park coach Chris Salio would like to see better scores from the fifth and sixth players on his boys golf team. But as for the other four players teeing off for the Spartans, he couldn't ask for much more.

Ryan Tetrault and Corey Gard both finished under par on the front nine on the Orange Course at Green River Golf Club, leading Villa Park to a 180-183 victory against Tesoro on Monday.

Tetrault birdied the par-3 fifth and par-4 eighth, holed a 15-yard chip on the 498-yard par-5 seventh for an eagle and finished with a 3-under 32.

Gard had a 2-under 33 as the first three Spartans finished a combined 1-under par. Villa Park improved to 6-1, with its only loss coming to No. 2 Servite.

“We knew that we had a good chance to score good this year. We knew we could play well at home,” Tetrault said about Green River, which is considered the Spartans' home course.

“But with the away matches … we are a bit skeptical. It was obviously disappointing losing to Servite,” added Tetrault, who placed second in the Century League Individual Tournament last season as a freshman.

The Friars defeated Villa Park, 179-184, on Wednesday at Green River.

“I knew that this was going to be a good team. We did return quite a few players,” Salio said.

“But my back two guys have got to pick it up if we are going to compete with the best. They have got to get their scores under 40.”

Newport Harbor 197, Aliso Niguel 206:Marcus Kiel shot a 1-under 36 to lead the Sailors (6-2-1) to the victory.
