Kickoff '08: Pacifica Mariners

OCVarsity.com

Pacifica

Last season: 10-3, 3-1

Postseason: 2007, lost to Cypress, 36-30, in the Southern Division championship game

Coach: Guy Gardner (fifth year, 33-15)

Outlook: Raymond Huizar and Josh Brannon form one of the county's most productive quarterback-running back tandems. Huizar passed for 2,700 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. Brannon gives the Mariners the option of controlling the clock and protecting a lead, something that Pacifica wasn't able to do against Cypress in the CIF championship game last season. Finding leaders on the defensive end will be important for the Mariners. The defensive unit returns only four starters. Another run for a league title isn't out of the question.

Home stadium: Bolsa Grande High

Factoid: Josh Brannon rushed for 1,443 yards last season as a junior

School record: 300-259-3
