Connor Hughes, Sr., outside hitter, Mater Dei

Player of the year

Chris Trefzger, Sr., setter, Mater Dei

At 6-foot-2, Trefzger is one of the tallest setters in the county. His height makes him one of the most versatile, as well. From his blocking to his hitting, he is the complete package. He helped Mater Dei reach the CIF-SS Division I final. He will attend USC starting in the fall.

Maurice Torres, Sr., opposite, Orange Lutheran

The 6-foot-5, Pepperdine-bound opposite hitter has springs for legs and an energetic style that makes him fun to watch. He led the Lancers to a victory over the No. 1 team in the nation, Loyola, in a nonleague match.

Ian Castellana, Sr., middle blocker, San Clemente

The senior has anchored the Tritons' middle for three seasons. He helped San Clemente nab its eighth consecutive South Coast League title. He will begin playing at UC Irvine next fall.

Dylan Davis Sr., middle blocker, Corona del Mar

Few players in the county can take over a game like Davis, who has a scholarship to UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos are getting a long - 6-foot-7 - and agile middle. He is dangerous at the net on defense and offense.

Tanner Jansen, Sr., outside hitter, Santa Margarita

Jansen was the Eagles' rock in a lineup full of underclassmen. He was the only senior starter for a team that went 9-1 in the Trinity League and won the title. Jansen is one of the county's biggest hitters and servers. He will be attending USC.

Cody Caldwell, Soph., outside hitter, Newport Harbor

Caldwell was the main weapon for the Sailors, who held the county's No. 1 ranking for the most weeks this season. The 6-foot-4 sophomore is the only underclassman on the first team. He helped Newport Harbor go unbeaten in the ultra-competitive Sunset League, which featured three top-10 teams.

Charlie Condron, Sr., libero, Huntington Beach

The Oilers were co-champs of the Sea View League because of his defense. Having lost their big weapon, the Oilers' emphasis was on ball control, and the Cal State Northridge-bound libero made it a successful plan. He helped the Oilers reach the second round of the CIF-SS Division I playoffs, where they lost to Mira Costa.
