IRVINE Huntington Beach kept its playoff hopes alive Friday with a 27-13 Sea View League victory over Woodbridge at Irvine High.
The Oilers (5-4, 2-2) stayed in fourth place in the league, one game behind El Toro and Foothill. Huntington Beach plays Foothill next week.
“We have to win to get in,” Oilers coach Eric Lo said.
Woodbridge (0-9, 0-4) got a solid effort from quarterback David Ingram, who passed for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
Huntington Beach won convincingly Friday, controlling the game with its rushing attack. The Oilers had 250 yards on the ground, led by 137 yards on 21 carries by Nick Gordon.
Gordon sealed the victory with a 75-yard touchdown run with 3:57 left in the game. It gave the Oilers a 27-6 lead.
Johnny Olive finished with 64 yards rushing.
“I thought it was our best offensive performance of the year,” Lo said.
