The Pioneers turn a close game into a rout in the second half to win, 43-12.
ANAHEIM - Sophomore Ruben Ortega rushed for a career-high 214 yards and two touchdowns Friday to lead Western to a 43-12 victory over Magnolia in an Orange League game at Western High.
Western (5-1-1, 2-0) turned a close game at halftime into a rout, outscoring the Sentinels, 28-0, in the final two quarters.
The second-half charge was sparked by the Pioneers defense, which limited Magnolia (3-4, 0-2) to 8 eight yards in the final two quarters.
Western had 520 rushing yards. Derek Orman added 133 yards and one score, and Mookie Cooksie had 80 yards and two touchdowns.
Magnolia cut Western’s lead to 15-12 at halftime following a 3-yard touchdown run by Rap Dantic and a 19-yard interception return by defensive end Desmond Talitiga.
