La Quinta ends 17-game losing streak in league
La Quinta vs. Rancho Alamitos
GARDEN GROVE - Homecoming is arguably the best time to start a trend, or in La Quinta's case, end one.
After falling behind in the second quarter against Rancho Alamitos, the Aztecs rallied to a 10-7 victory, halting a 17-game Garden Grove League losing streak.
"It's been a long time," said quarterback George Martinez of the Aztecs (3-6, 1-3). "But we had a really good week of practice, and the offensive line really helped us get this win tonight."
The Vaqueros (2-7, 0-4) capped an 11-play, late second-quarter drive with a 26-yard TD pass from Mike Frank to Juan Cruz.
But timely scrambling from Martinez and an 86-yard second half from running back Nathan Do helped La Quinta control the clock after halftime.
With 8:37 remaining, Martinez eluded two Vaqueros for a go-ahead 10-yard TD.
