Servite turns in perfect Trinity record
Nicholls scores 5 TDs as the Friars go unbeaten in league by knocking off JSerra, 48-20.
NORWALK - Cody Fajardo threw for 354 yards and five touchdowns and Chris Nicholls scored five touchdowns to lead Servite to a 48-20 victory over JSerra in a Trinity League game Friday night at Cerritos College.
The Friars (9-1, 5-0) have won six in a row and completed league play undefeated.
No other team has gone undefeated in this league since it was known as the Serra League, and St. John Bosco went 5-0 in 2002.
“It's a great accomplishment, but it’s not our ultimate goal,” said Servite coach Troy Thomas. “We want to win a state title.
"I’m impressed how our seniors showed leadership starting from the first day of camp.”
The Friars scored quickly on their first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead. Fajardo connected on a 46-yard TD pass with Rudy Guerrero for the first score.
Nicholls hauled in a short pass from Fajardo and raced 88 yards for a touchdown to give the Friars 14-0 after the first quarter. Nicholls added a 5-yard TD run in the second quarter giving the Friars a 21-0 lead.
Johnny Russell caught a TD from Bobby Brown for the Lions (6-4, 1-4) but Fajardo tossed TD passes of 71 and 26 yards to Nicholls and Ainslie Johnson in the final two minutes of the half to give the Friars a 35-7 lead at the break.
Brown led JSerra with 112 yards rushing. He scored a touchdown and threw a TD pass.
The Lions, after winning its first six games of the season, dropped their final four but finished with the school’s first winning record.
