Girls lacrosse athlete of the week: Cailynn Smethurst

The freshman goalkeeper had a big game last week in Newport Harbor’s 9-7 victory over previously No. 7-ranked St. Margaret’s. She stopped six shots to help the Sailors, who are ranked No. 7 this week, to the victory.

“She helped to start our transition game with her excellent vision and smart clears,” Coach Sarah Queener said. “She's been playing goalie for less than a month, but she's fearless in the net and we're really excited to have her as our last line of defense.”
