Muhammad spurs Cypress

SPECIAL TO OCVARSITY.COM

ANAHEIM - After a disappointing playoff exit a season ago, Cypress made sure it was not going to rest on its laurels Friday.

Behind Akeelie Muhammad’s 238 yards rushing and five touchdowns, Cypress defeated visiting Troy, 44-14, in a CIF-Southern Section Southwest Division first-round game at Western High.

“We want to practice on Thanksgiving,” said Centurions coach Ray Fenton, whose squad will play El Toro in the second round. “We’ve been able to do that three of the past four years, and we’re excited about having that opportunity again.”
