Newport Harbor pounced on host Mira Costa of Manhattan Beach in the first half Friday night and cruised to a 42-14 nonleague victory at Waller Stadium.
The Sailors (4-1) opened with a 1-yard touchdown run by Danny Miller on their opening drive, then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff.
"We played well offensively," Sailors coach Jeff Brinkley said. "After we jumped out to a 14-0 lead, it kind of snowballed (on Mira Costa, 2-3) from there."
