Tustin survives against Villa Park
Century: Tustin 23, Villa Park 15
ORANGE Anthony Wilkerson rushed for 203 yards and a touchdown, and Spencer Minshew had a sack on fourth down with 3:21 left in the game as Tustin edged Villa Park, 23-15, in a Century League game Thursday at El Modena High.
“I couldn’t believe (Villa Park quarterback Tyler Watkins) kept holding it. I just got free and it felt so good when I hit him,” Minshew said. “We needed this game bad because without it we would never have made (the playoffs).”
The Tillers (3-4, 1-1) jumped out to a 16-0 lead with the help of a pair of rushing touchdowns from Wilkerson and Antonio Mendoza, but the Spartans rallied in the second half with a pair of scores to cut the lead to 23-15.
The Spartans (1-6, 0-2) drove down the field from their own 12-yard-line and threatened to score, but Minshew came from the blindside Watkins on fourth down to end the drive.
