It was a year of firsts for the Santa Margarita girls tennis team, and Coach Eric Michaut paved the way.
The Eagles swept Trinity League rival Mater Dei for the first time in 11 years, and they won the Trinity League title for the second time in Michaut’s tenure. The Eagles also reached the CIF-SS Division I quarterfinals, a first for the program.
For his accomplishments in what many coaches said was an overachieving year, Michaut is The Register’s 2007 Girls Tennis Coach of the Year.
The Eagles finished 19-2, with one of their only losses to Dana Hills, the unbeaten and eventual Division I champions.
“I’m so proud of how our girls competed and believed in themselves,” Michaut said.
