Los Alamitos girls lacrosse coach Meredith Meyran played a major role in helping her team live up to its preseason billing.

Meyran adeptly guided the Griffins through the playoffs and celebrated with them as they won their second consecutive Orange County title and their second straight U.S. Lacrosse Division I Southern Section crown.

Now, there is time to look back.

“To be honest, I’m kind of relieved that it’s over with,” said Meyran, who has been selected The Orange County Register’s girls lacrosse of the year for 2010. “It was a tough couple of months, we worked really, really hard and we were really focused on it.”

The Griffins went 21-0, rolling to their 40th consecutive win over two years while defeating North champion Redondo Union, 24-7, in the Southern California finals.

The Griffins also defeated Foothill, 12-8, to win the Orange County title.

The Griffins did it through teamwork, said Meyran, who has a 61-7-1 record since taking over the program in 2007.

“Everybody worked together, we had seven players who had over 20 goals and 20 assists,” Meyran said.

Meyran played lacrosse at Towson University, then took over the Los Alamitos program in 2007.

“My husband (Kevin) was starting the program at Los Alamitos and when they went to the school to get it approved the school said you could have a boys team if you have a girls team,” Meyran said.

Kevin Meyran didn’t have to look far for a girls coach.

Meredith Meyran took over the girls program at Los Alamitos and has made it the dominant force in the county.

She and her husband, when their not coaching lacrosse, are enjoying spending time with their first child, Ellie, who is almost four months old.

The new parents seem to have adjusted well to their even busier schedule.

“It’s been pretty crazy but luckily she’s a laid back baby and I just bring her to practice and she’s at all the games and we just go with it,” Meyran said.

When she’s coaching, usually it’s her husband, Kevin who handles the babysitting if he does not have a conflict with his team.

Meyran hopes the good times continue next year.

“It will be a totally different team but I think we’ll still be competitive, as long as we work hard and stay focused, I think we will be able to remain in the top four,” she said.
