Merlihan posted the second-fastest 200-yard freestyle (1:52.55) in the county and the third-ranked 500 free (5:01.57) plus raced on two winning relays to lead the No. 3 Aztecs past No. 9 Foothill, 101-69, in a Century League showdown.
"I was shocked by that," Merlihan said of her time in the 200 free. "The (club) meet we tapered for in March in Texas, I went 1:51, so 1:52 is pretty good for me."
Merlihan split a 25.42 in the 200 free relay, the event following her 500. The Irvine Novaquatics club swimmer has qualified for June's U.S. Olympic Trials in the 400-meter freestyle.
