BELLFLOWER It was simply a perfect night for the Servite faithful.
On the night rival Mater Dei lost, Servite quarterback Johnny McEntee led the attack in front of a hostile crowd with precise passing to complete a flawless night.
McEntee was 12 of 12 passing for 155 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Friars past St. John Bosco of Bellflower, 31-13, Friday in Trinity League play at St. John Bosco High. The Friars (7-1, 3-0) control their own destiny in league play.
McEntee didn’t pass often but when he did he made the defense of the Braves (3-5, 1-2) scatter to cover the open receiver. And when McEntee decided to run he scored from 2 yards out to help Servite regain the lead for good, 7-6, midway through the second quarter.
Greg Portis caught eight passes for 87 yards including scores of 7 and 17 yards. Running back D.J. Shoemate added 136 yards on 25 carries.
Asked if McEntee’s perfect passing night and the Monarchs’ loss made it a perfect night for the Friars, Coach Troy Thomas simply smiled.
That said it all.
