Los Alamitos crashes South Coast Tournament semifinals

Chandler Jarrels and Max Merrill each scored five goals and Christian Searing added two as Los Alamitos' No. 4 boys water polo team reached the semifinals of the South Coast Tournament with a 14-6 victory at No. 3-ranked Corona del Mar on Friday.

Los Alamitos (5-0) advanced to Saturday's semifinal against top-seeded and defending champion Mater Dei (8-0) at Corona del Mar at 10:40 a.m.

Mater Dei reached the semifinals by defeating Long Beach Wilson, 15-6, at Servite. Goalie McQuin Baron made 20 saves to pace the Monarchs, who have won a Southern Section record 57 consecutive matches.

In the other semifinal Saturday, Newport Harbor will play Loyola of Los Angeles at 11:45 a.m. at Corona del Mar.

The Sailors reached the semiifnals with a 7-5 victory against Dana Hills at JSerra on Friday.

Loyola defeated Agoura, 10-7, in another quarterfinal at Foothill.

The final is at Corona del Mar at 4:05 p.m.
