Kickoff 2012: Magnolia preview
Last season record: 4-7, 3-2 league
Postseason: 2011, lost to Estancia, 42-7, in first round of Southern Division playoffs
Coach: Ryan Olson (3rd year, 9-13)
Home stadium: Glover Stadium, Western High
Outlook: Magnolia possesses probably the best team speed on both sides of the ball than anybody in the league. But the Sentinels are very young and junior-ladened. Magnolia lost seven first team all-leaguers to graduation, including the league’s offensive player of the year in Hector Escobar. Jamal Scott – a first team selection last season at Savanna – has transferred to Magnolia and will play a huge role for the Sentinels on both offense and defense. Olson feels he has the best defense in the league – led by DT Sikote Tavake. Magnolia is likely a year away from contending for a league championship, but it should contend for its third consecutive postseason berth.
Factoid: Magnolia has won one league championship in 45 years.
School record: 154-333-9
