Westminster vs. Schurr
MONTEBELLO - Westminster finally put itself in a position to get back in the game in the third quarter after a poor first half. The Lions came up short, and Schurr turned the momentum level up a few notches with a 94-yard scoring play two plays later and went on to defeat the Lions, 38-8, in a second round game Friday night.
The Lions’ Kenny Chapple forced Spartan punter out of bounds short of the first down on a fake punt at the 41-yard line of Schurr (8-4) early in the third quarter. The Lions, behind the running of Dantae Taylor, marched down to the 5-yard line looking to cut the 14-0 deficit in half. Taylor was stopped at the 4-yard line on fourth down, and the Lions turned the ball over on downs. Two plays later, Schurr’s Joseph Orduno connected with Alex Valdez on a 94-yard scoring pass that put the game away.
