SANTA ANA - The Westminster Lions made a loud statement Friday night by beginning Golden West League play with a 35-7 victory over the Santa Ana Saints at Santa Ana Stadium.
The Lions (3-3, 1-0) emerged victorious over the Saints (3-2, 0-1) on the strength of quarterback Kenny Chapple. He completed 6 of 15 passes for 208 yards and four touchdowns, including an 80-yarder to wide receiver Michael Luu.
Luu was the go-to guy for Chapple as they hooked up for three touchdowns and Luu had 157 receiving yards. In addition to an impressive passing game, the Lions got it done on the ground.
Running back Aaron Garbutt rushed for 123 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown.
