•Last year's final standings: 1. Mission Viejo (22-6 overall, 10-0 league); 2. Capistrano Valley 22-5, 8-2); 3. Tesoro (17-10, 5-5); Dana Hills (14-15, 3-7); (tie) Aliso Niguel (11-16, 3-7); 6. San Clemente (2-15, 1-9).
•In the CIF-Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs, Mission Viejo advanced to the second round. Dana Hills, Capistrano Valley and Tesoro were eliminated in the first round.
•The top four teams in this league all are potential county top-10 teams.
•Mission Viejo lost All-County first-team guard Perry Webster to graduation. The Diablos still have two returning all-league first-team players, Grant Heineken and Ryan Spurlock.
•Tesoro's Chris Manresa was all-league first team as a sophomore last year, when he averaged 15 points and nine rebounds.
•Dana Hills' Ryan Hill was all-league first team last year. Capistrano Valley lacks the height of some of the league's top teams, but the Cougars have beaten some good teams in nonleague games this season. ...
•Aliso Niguel has several underclassmen on the roster, and the seniors did not play a great deal last year.
•San Clemente's new coach, Marc Popovich, is a son of former Marina coach Steve Popovich.
