Girls soccer wrapup: Teams kick into gear

OCVarsity takes a look at the regular-season highlights and top performances.

OCVARSITY.COM

The regular season has officially come to a close. Once again, county soccer fans were treated to spectacular moments and special performances.

Here is a quick look back at some of the highlights.

ON A ROLL

Top-ranked Capistrano Valley (16-1-3) has the county's longest unbeaten streak heading into the CIF-SS playoffs. Since losing to Pacifica on Dec. 10, the Cougars have gone 18 matches without a loss. That run included winning the Excalibur Tournament and the Sea View League title.

A NEW ERA

It was an impressive return to the South Coast League for Dana Hills, which won its third consecutive league title (the previous two were in the Sea View League). The Dolphins' title ended a five-year stretch during which San Clemente won at least a share of the South Coast crown.

Villa Park won its first Century League title since 1988 with 10 victories in 12 league matches.

UNDEFEATED RUNS

Katella enjoyed an undefeated 10-match run en route to winning the Orange League title.

St. Margaret's also finished 10-0 on its way to the Academy League title.

Golden West League champion Segerstrom will enter the CIF playoffs as the only team in the county to have a perfect overall record. The Jaguars have won all 16 of their matches.

UP NEXT

The brackets for the CIF-SS playoffs will be released Monday.

The playoffs will culminate with the CIF-SS championships scheduled for March 1-2.
