Troy pulls rank on Sunny Hills

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Junior Shannon Grossman scored a season-high six goals and three other players added two goals apiece to lead Troy's girls water polo team past visiting Sunny Hills, 13-8, in a Freeway League showdown Thursday.

Troy (12-7, 5-0), ranked fifth in Division 4, took sole possession of first place in the double-round league. Sunny Hills, ranked fourth in Division 4, dropped to 19-5 and 4-1.

Minna Mattis, Grace Schade and Alicia Tully each added two goals for the Warriors. Troy goalie Jessica Harris made seven saves in three periods.

Savanna 9, Santa Ana Valley 1: Teresa Alcala made 15 saves to lead the host Rebels (15-4, 2-0) past the defending league champion Falcons.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Beckman 8, University 7 (OT): Rachel Emami scored four goals, including the winner with about a minute left in the second three-minute overtime, to lead the visiting Patriots (14-3, 4-0), who played without leading scorer Nikki Daurio (concussion).
