Postseason: Lost to Estancia, 10-7, in second round of CIF Southern Division playoffs.

Coach: Rick Gibson (24th year)

Home stadium: Irvine

Outlook: The Warriors have eight returning players on offense and six on defense and have been picked by coaches in the PCL to win the league title. Leading the way for Woodbridge is senior quarterback Matt Callahan, who has some talented receivers to throw to, including wide receiver David McCutchan and tight end Zach Rusick. The offensive line is also solid, led by senior David Patterson (6-4, 285). The defense is led by strong safety McCutchan and linebacker Philip Hong, who were both first team all-league players last year. Junior runningback/linebacker Tyler Branin is another key player.

Factoid: Senior lineman David Patterson bench presses 315 pounds.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
OT David Patterson: Patterson, a senior, was first team All-Pacific Coast League last year. “David is the anchor of our offensive line and he’s a great kid,” said Woodbridge Coach Rick Gibson. “He’s very coachable and just the kind of kid you want to be the anchor of your offensive line. He is pretty big and pretty strong.”
MLB Philip Hong: Hong, a junior, was a first team all-league player last year and the Warriors are expecting another big year out of him. Hong had 110 tackles last year. “He’s a tremendous ball hawk and he kind of knows where the ball is going,” Gibson said. “He does a great job of reading (opposing offenses).”
