University, JSerra, Valencia post big wins
Freshman attacker Griffin Chappell scored five goals and junior Erik Whyte added four to help University's boys water polo team upset No. 9 Northwood, 16-12, in a Pacific Coast League match Thursday.
The Trojans improved to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Pacific Coast League. Coach Andy Coffman's squad now has sole possession of second place in the Division 2 league, which plays two rounds.
RJ Simmons scored five goals for Northwood (9-7, 3-2).
In the Trinity League:
JSerra 12, Servite 11 (OT): Freshman Marko Asic scored five goals, including the winner, and Andrew Papilion added three to help the Lions (12-7, 1-0) surprise the host Friars (1-1 in league) in sudden-death overtime.
In the Empire League:
Valencia 10, Tustin 5: Paul Schindler scored four goals at Foothill as the visiting Tigers (11-2, 2-0 in league) took over sole possession of first place in the Division 6 league.
