Trabuco Hills needs strong finish to win
The Mustangs score 21 points in fourth quarter to get past Woodbridge, 35-20.
IRVINE - Trabuco Hills clinched a berth in the CIF-Southern Section Southwest Division playoffs Friday night, but did so in a lot more difficult fashion than expected.
The Mustangs needed 21 fourth-quarter points — three Shane DeCillo TDs — to get past upset-minded Woodbridge, 35-20, in a key Sea View League game at Irvine Stadium.
"You got to tip your hat to Woodbridge. They came out firing and really took it to us," Mustangs coach Jason Negro said.
The victory improves Trabuco Hills to 5-4 overall, 3-1 in league, one game behind league-leader Foothill and one ahead of both Huntington Beach and El Toro. By virtue of defeating both Huntington Beach and El Toro earlier in the season, the Mustangs clinch the No..2 seed from the Sea View League no matter what happens next week.
"You've got to get into the tournament to have a shot (at winning a championship), but we've got to play a lot better than this in the tournament," Negro said.
