Seven county teams are alive in today's quarterfinals, two are guaranteed to advance to the semifinals and three are alone in their divisions: Valencia in Division III, Sage Hill in Division IV, and Segerstrom in Division V.

Of those three, the Jaguars are the lone team to play at home today.

The other four teams remaining are in Division I. In today's matchups, Troy is at University and Dana Hills faces Mater Dei at Los Caballeros Tennis Club.

The semifinals are scheduled for May 20 and the finals are May 28 at The Claremont Club. The CIF Individuals Tournament begins Friday at various locations.

OUT BUT NOT DOWN

When Northwood played in the tough Pacific Coast League, the Timberwolves' playoff objective was to get past the first round.

They usually had to face a league champion in the opening round.

When the Timberwolves moved to the Sea View League a few years ago, they began to enjoy the No. 1 seed as the league champion.

But the playoffs can still be treacherous. The Timberwolves lost in a second-round match Saturday to Dana Hills, 11-7. They also lost in the second round last year.

Northwood graduates a reliable singles player, Chad Sigler, and Nick Nguyen, who teamed with Brett Randolph to win the league title in doubles.

Northwood has a solid core returning in Junya Yoshida and the No. 1 doubles team of Eugene Kang and Parker Jung.
