Brethren Chrisitan keeps playoff hopes alive
HUNTINGTON BEACH - Brethren Christian qualified for a CIF-SS at-large playoff bid after defeating Crean Lutheran South, 55-0, Friday night.
The Warriors (5-5, 1-2) entered the game knowing they had to win to have a chance at an at-large berth. They seized this opportunity by running the ball all over the Saints (0-8, 0-3).
Now they will wait until Sunday to find out if they are selected for the playoffs.
Running back Ryan Randle led the explosive rushing attack by gaining 181 yards on 11 carries and scoring four touchdowns. Randle accumulated 116 yards in the first half.
Randle’s total made him the all-time leading rusher at Brethren Christian with 1,489 yards this season.
The previous record was 1,485 yards set in 1982. Randle broke the record in the third quarter with a 40-yard touchdown run, after which he was done for the night.
“I am very blessed. I need to thank my teammates, family, friends, and coaches. Without them this would not have been possible,” said Randle about breaking the record.
Randle had a good supporting cast in the dominating victory over the Saints. The Warriors defense allowed only 81 yards of total offense and held the Saints to one pass completion on 13 attempts.
Taylor Hallaian added 111 yards and two touchdowns.
