Kennedy drops second in a row

LAKEWOOD - Jesse Scroggins threw three touchdowns passes, and Alex Fletcher and Brian Diaz each scored twice to lead Lakewood to a 48-8 victory over Kennedy in a nonleague game Friday night at Lakewood High.

After winning its first two games of the season, Kennedy (2-2) has dropped two in a row and have been outscored 86-11.

Scroggins guided Lakewood (2-2) to touchdowns on the Lancers first three possessions.

Scroggins completed a 47-yard scoring pass to Kevin Anderson, and Fletcher added a 62-yard TD run to give Lakewood a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

Scroggins connected on a 5-yard touchdown pass to Diaz in the second quarter, and the Lancers led 21-0 at halftime.

Scroggins completed 10 of 11 passes for 113 yards, and Diaz caught four passes.

Kennedys offense was inconsistent throughout. Quarterback Zack Emde completed 21 passes for 218 yards but he was picked off twice, and the Fighting Irish turned the ball over three times. Lakewood sacked Emde five times.

Kennedys lone score came in the third quarter. Emde tossed a 15-yard scoring pass to Jordan Collins, but the Lancers tacked on three touchdowns in the third quarter to lead, 41-8, after three quarters.

Collins and Tony Nunez each caught six passes for 67 yards for the Fighting Irish. Kyle White, a defensive end converted to running back for the game because of injuries to starting running backs Steven Salazar and Cory Smith, rushed for 23 yards.
