Laguna Beach secures Orange Coast title

SPECIAL TO OCVARSITY.COM

LAGUNA BEACH - An opportunistic defense and a strong rushing attack combined to give Laguna Beach a 49-34 victory over visiting Costa Mesa on Friday night, securing the Orange Coast League title.

The Breakers (5-5, 4-0) scored early and often, putting points on the board on their first four offensive possessions. They were led by senior running back Alec Jaffe, who rushed for a team-high 152 yards on 28 carries.

It was Laguna Beach’s defense, however, that allowed them to build a 22-point lead by halftime.

The Mustangs (6-4, 3-1) put up a valiant effort in the second half, scoring 20 points to close the gap.
