Foothill boys lacrosse coach Jon Fox has been at helm of the most dominant program in the county for four years in a row.

His latest success came this year when the Knights won their fourth straight Orange County title and fourth consecutive U.S. Lacrosse Division I Southern Section crown.

“This year was a team of players that focused on the team first,” said Fox, who has been selected the 2010 Orange County Register boys lacrosse coach of the year. “They didn’t blame each other when things went poorly but they worked together to improve, learn and rebound from each hurdle we faced.

“The senior class was small but led strongly by example, and the love of the game was there all year for the players. It was an extremely special year and a great group of players and families to spend time with.”

Fox has been there from the start of the Foothill varsity lacrosse program in 2006, recording an 89-15 record.

Before that, Fox guided Foothill’s club team from 2001 to 2004. The team won the Los Angeles-Orange County club championship four times and was a two-time state club champion.

Fox had the credentials to take over the lacrosse program.

A 1990 graduate of Chico High, Fox played lacrosse at UC Irvine from 1991 to 1994. The team won the West Coast Lacrosse League Division 2 championship in 1994. Fox was a humanities and film studies major and is currently working on his Master’s Degree at Concordia University.

But lacrosse continues to play a big part in his life.

“I love the unique opportunity lacrosse gives to each athlete to be successful, by utilizing their God-given talents athletically and mentally to be creative when playing yet still work for the good of the team,” Fox said. “Nothing can replace a positive and exciting team experience in forming young men, and the sport of lacrosse sets that up beautifully.”

Fox and his wife, Kristy, have been married for 15 years. Their family includes their children: Joshua, 10; Madeline, 8, and Luke, 5.
