Kim returns to Corona del Mar
Corona del Mar standout swimmer John Kim, who last week enrolled at Capistrano Valley, has returned to Corona del Mar, Sea Kings athletic director Don Grable said Friday.
Kim, a junior, is athletically eligible to swim varsity at Corona del Mar because his transfer to Capistrano Valley had not been completed, said Thom Simmons, the Southern Section's director of communications.
Simmons said Kim essentially had not officially dis-enrolled from Corona del Mar. Unless there is another issue it is not aware of, the Southern Section views Kim as eligible, Simmons said.
He could race Saturday night in the finals of the Millikan Southern Section Relays at Belmont Plaza. The meet starts at 6 p.m.
Last season, Kim placed third in the 200 individual medley (1:52.27) at the CIF-SS Division 1 finals and won the consolation final in the 100 breast in 57.57.
Corona del Mar is ranked second in Orange County to reigning Division 1 champion Capo Valley. The Sea Kings finished fifth in Division 1 last season.
