PLACENTIA- Esperanza rolled up 370 yards of offense Thursday night, jumping to a 14-0 first quarter lead en route to a 42-18 win victory over L.A. Jordan at Valencia High.
Scoring runs by Reid Williamsand Casey Canzone put the Aztecs (4-0) up, 14-0, barely 10 minutes into the game. Jordan (1-3) tried a bit of razzle-dazzle to try and get back into the game early, but to no avail.
Aztecs quarterback Sean McDonald, who was 6 for 9 for a season-high 113 yards and a pair of TD tosses to Dillon Gearin, also ran for a score to help the hosts take a 28-0 lead at the half. Esperanza outgained Jordan, 200-112 in the first half, the Bulldogs having just one yard of rushing in the first two quarters.
After Jared Moore set up his own 1-yard scoring run with a 92-yard kick return to open the second half, Jordan quarterback James Boyd got the Bulldogs back into the game with scoring tosses to Deshawn Beck, Eric Hunter and Artis Smith, but it was too little too late.
Boyd threw for 284 yards.
