Mission Viejo's Mascarenas commits to UCLA

OCVarsity.com

Two-time All-Orange County defensive back Alex Mascarenas of Mission  Viejo has committed to UCLA, Diablos coach Bob Johnson said.

Mascarenas (5-11, 180) picked the Bruins over Arizona State, Arizona, Boise State, Cal and Colorado among others, Johnson said.

Johnson believes Mascarenas could play either cornerback or safety for the Bruins.

"He's got such good sense for the ball,” Johnson said of Mascarenas, a two-time second-team All-County selection.

Mascarenas also plays wide receiver for Mission Viejo.

UCLA also is interested in Mission Viejo quarterback Allan Bridgford,  Johnson said. Bridgford (6-4, 185) has received scholarship offers from  Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford and Texas Tech among others, Johnson  said.
