Irvine defeats Beckman, 28-7.
TUSTIN ¡V Irvine¡¦s football team figured to be tested Saturday afternoon against Beckman in a Pacific Coast League opener at Tustin High.

But the Vaqueros dominated the contest, topping the Patriots, 28-7, for their sixth victory in a row.

Irvine quarterbacks Brennan Leitao (4 for 9, 60ƒ|yards) and Allen Merritt (2 for 2, 36 yards) directed the offense. The defense recorded three interceptions against Beckman (5-2, 0-1).

¡§We got some good field position in the first half, which helped,¡¨ Irvine coach Terry Henigan said.

Irvine (6-1, 1-0) was led by Justin Reihanifam, who scored on 1-yard TD runs in the first and fourth quarters.

Michael Ernst also returned a punt 52 yards for a score in the third quarter to put Irvine ahead, 21-0.
