CARLOS DELGADO, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
It should be another hard-fought battle when Edison and Servite meet in the OCVarsity Game of the Week on Friday night at Cerrittos College. The Friars won the 2011 meeting, 27-14, but the Chargers lead the series, 13-10.

GAME OF THE WEEK

NO. 7 EDISON (2-0) VS. NO. 5 SERVITE (1-1)

Where, when: Cerritos College, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

The last time: 2011 – Servite 27, Edison 14

The series: Edison leads, 13-10

The coaches: Edison, Dave White (191-103-3); Servite, Troy Thomas (74-18 at Servite)

Outlook: Edison's offense was out of sync last week in a 27-7 victory over No. 14 Villa Park. So out of sync that White said the Chargers never seemed to have all 11 players on offense do the right thing at the same time. Defensively, though, Edison looked great. That is one quick, hard-hitting defense. The Chargers did not miss tackles, and they arrived at the point of attack with ferocity. Sounds a lot like Servite's defense, doesn't it? Servite played poorly in its season opener, a 40-23 loss to Bishop Amat of La Puente. Since then Bishop Amat has tied Chino Hills and beat La Mirada, making Servite's loss to Amat look not so bad. The Friars beat Rancho Cucamonga, 24-23, two weeks ago when Rancho Cucamonga was No. 10 in the state rankings. Servite then underwent a change in offensive coordinators, relieving Matt Mitchell of his duties and assigning them to offensive line coach Jim O'Connell. We shall see if that smoothes out some rough edges on the Servite offense. We know Servite has the athletes. Correctly assembling them is the key, and O'Connell has been skillful in doing so as head coach at Tesoro and Saddleback. Look for Servite to put a lot of pressure on Edison quarterback Alek Torgersen, make some big plays on special teams and win the turnovers battle.

Winner: Servite
