Laguna Hills wins on last-second FG
LAGUNA HILLS - Brady Runyon’s 43-yard field goal with no time left was the difference in a 30-29 nonleague victory for Laguna Hills over Northwood on Friday night at Laguna Hills High.
Runyon missed a 46-yard attempt with 1:13 left in the game, but got another chance to win it when Northwood (0-2) couldn’t run out the clock.
After a Northwood punt, the Hawks (2-0) got the ball back on the Timberwolves 36 with 18 seconds left.
Kevin Moore found Brian Downs open for a 10-yard completion, and then Moore was able to spike the ball with one second left to set up Runyon’s kick.
Laguna Hills took a 27-26 lead on a 49-yard touchdown run by Alex Salera with 8:29 left. Northwood drove 79 yards down to the Hawks’ 1-yard line on its next possession, but couldn’t punch the ball in and had to settle for an 18-yard Nathan Nelleson field goal. It put Northwood in front, 29-27, with 3:38 to play.
The game featured 358 yards passing by Northwood’s Ricky Bautista, 216 yards receiving by Northwood’s Tyler Zorn and 215 yards rushing by Laguna Hills’ Salera.
