San Juan Hills slams Savanna
Payton Reisman prefers league games over tournament games. But he will always remember what he did in an Anaheim Lions Tournament game Tuesday.
Reisman hit the second grand slam of his life as San Juan Hills defeated Savanna, 12-2, in a Lions tournament game at Glover Stadium.
The other grand slam?
"When I was in majors, in Little League," said Reisman, a senior right fielder.
San Juan Hills (9-5) did not need Reisman's first home run of the year. The Stallions already had an 8-2 lead, and their pitcher, senior right-hander Christian Stubbs, was well on his way to a two-hitter.
Savanna (7-7) had taken a 2-0 lead in the second inning. San Juan Hills scored a run in the third inning, then took the lead during a six-run fourth. The Stallions piled on five runs, including Reisman's slam, in the sixth.
San Juan Hills won three of its four games in the tournament that started Saturday, and gained some knowledge about what kind of team it can be as the Stallions prepare to re-enter competition in the Sea View League. That league has three of its members in the Orange County top 10 – No. 7 Mission Viejo, No. 9 Trabuco Hills and No. 10 Aliso Niguel which San Juan Hills plays Monday. Only the Trinity League has that many representatives in the county top 10.
"When you play a lot of games in this short amount of time," San Juan Hills coach Jeremey Wooten said," you learn how your guys face adversity. This is when you truly find out about a player and a team."
Casey Przybylak and Dylan Diaz drove in two runs apiece for San Juan Hills.
Reisman and his teammates are looking forward to getting back to games in the Sea View League, in which the Stallions are 1-2.
"It's a tough league, with great competition," Reisman said. "I like league better, because there's more on the line than just a tournament trophy."
But it was an unforgettable tournament day for Reisman.
No. 3 JSerra 5, Viewmont of Utah 1: Jack Teah and Hayden Cornwell combined on a two-hitter for the Lions (13-3) at Brookhurst Park.
