MISSION VIEJO Senior running back Shane DeCillo rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, while the Trabuco Hills defense held Savanna to 79 total yards and forced three turnovers in 53-0 rout in the opening round of the CIF-SS Southwest Division playoffs Friday at Trabuco Hills High.

“We just went out did what we have done throughout the season,” said DeCillo.

Seeded No. 3 in the Southwest Division entering the playoffs, The Sea View League champion Mustangs (10-1) have now won eight in a row and will take on Pacifica in the second round.

“I think we had a really good mindset coming into the game and we were excited to be here,” said Mustangs coach Jason Negro. “Our kids played hard and set the tone early with our defense.”

After each team was forced to punt on its opening possession, the Mustangs drove 49 yards for the game’s first points as senior quarterback A.J. Josue hit senior wide receiver J.B. Torsy on a 5-yard touchdown pass, making it 7-0.

The Mustangs increased the lead to 10-0 late in the quarter, as senior kicker Mitch Murar connected on a 41-yard field goal.

Trabuco Hills then took control of the game in the second quarter. Senior Dylan Buononato began the scoring, breaking free for an 8-yard touchdown run 23 seconds into the period. The extra point was blocked, giving the Mustangs a 16-0 advantage.

The Mustangs defense forced a Rebels punt on their ensuing possession, and two plays later, DeCillo weaved his way through the defense for an 18-yard score, making it 23-0.

Later in the period, Josue hit senior wide receiver Chris Simonton from 11yards out, upping the lead to 30-0.

DeCillo’s second touchdown of the period from a yard out made it 37-0, and junior Andrew Walsh capped the second quarter flurry in the waning seconds of the half, intercepting Rebels junior quarterback Jeremiah Rideaux and returning it 29 yards to give Trabuco Hills a 44-0 advantage at the intermission.

The Mustangs scored the final points of the contest in the third period, as Murar connected on a 48-yard field goal and Buononanto scored on a run from 33 yards out.
