SPECIAL TO OCVARSITY.COM

TUSTIN - Laguna Hills won its 14th consecutive Pacific Coast League game Thursday, but it wasn't easy.

The Hawks answered a Beckman score in the third quarter with two touchdowns and played solid defense in a hard-fought 28-7 victory at Tustin High.

"We played well enough to win," Laguna Hills coach Bruce Ingalls said.

"My hat is off to Beckman. They played very physical and gave us everything we wanted and then some."

Beckman (4-3-1, 1-2) made it a 14-7 game when Justin Hazard found Austin Archer for a 4-yard touchdown pass on a fourth-down play with 4:19 left in the third quarter.

But Laguna Hills (6-2, 3-0) came right back with an 18-yard touchdown run by Jonathon Miranda late in the third quarter and then a 1-yard touchdown dive by Tommy Vorsheck with 6:32 left in the game.

Laguna Hills' defense held Beckman's Keith Lawson, the No. 3 rusher in Orange County, to just 56 yards on 22 carries.

Hazard picked up the slack with a career-best night, completing 9 of 15 passes for 196 yards.
