Kickoff 2010: La Habra Highlanders
Last season record:
13-1, 5-0 (1st place)
Postseason:
In 2009, beat Trabuco Hills, 21-0, in the Southwest Division championship game.
Coach:
Frank Mazzotta (12th year, 116-36-1)
Home stadium:
La Habra High
Outlook:
The Highlanders should once again be the team to beat in the Freeway League, as well as the Southwest Division. Washington State-bound quarterback Cody Clements returns. Last year he threw for 2,095 yards and 29 TDs. He should have plenty of time to make his reads as the Highlanders have four returning starters on the offensive line. Brett Bartolone will likely be the receiver that Clements looks to first. Bartolone scored 13 touchdowns in ‘09. Ahmad Avery might have the toughest job on the team. He will be the Highlanders’ featured running back this season, taking over for Josh Quezada, one of the county’s top runners last season. As Quezada’s backup in ’09, Avery gained 399 yards and scored five TDs.
