He shot a 1-over par 73 which included four birdies to help Newport Harbor win the Estancia Tournament at Mesa Verde Country Club. The event is scored using a modified Stableford system, and Tapfer scored 20 points. The Sailors finished with 69 points. It also was the first tournament victory of any kind for Scott Tarnow in the 12 years that he has been coaching the team.
