Fullerton turns on offense in second half
Sunny Hills vs. Fullerton. Game played at Buena Park High.
BUENA PARK - After a first half that produced more penalties than points, Fullerton (6-1, 2-0) rallied for a dominating 42-0 victory over Sunny Hills (4-3, 1-1) in a Freeway League game at Buena Park High on Friday night.
The first half was tough for both sides. The Indians racked up nine penalties for 95 yards, but a blocked punt toward the end of the first quarter gave them a 7-0 lead that they carried into halftime.
In the second half, Fullerton senior Michael Allain took over the game and showed how he rushed for more than 2,000 yards last season. He scored two touchdowns on the Indians’ first two possessions of the half and ended the game with 198 yards on 28 carries.
Fullerton quarterback Dominic Ficociello scored on runs of 59 and 24 yards on the Indians’ next two possessions.
"We decided to play football. The kids came around and played like they could," Fullerton coach Julian Smilowitz said about the difference in his team’s play from the first half to the second.
"Our team learned a lesson today — never to overlook any team you play."
