COSTA MESA- Sophomore quarterback Nolan Tippy found his rhythm in the second half, leading two scoring drives that made the difference in Ocean View’s 26-14 victory over Costa Mesa on Friday at Estancia High.

The Seahawks generated most of their offense on the ground in the first half but changed their approach after halftime.

“We need to be able to (pass and run), we can’t become one dimensional,” Ocean View coach Harold Eggers said.

After six consecutive incompletions to open the game, Tippy completed 9 of 11 passes the remainder of the way and finished with 108 yards and two touchdowns.

Aside from Tippy, the major movers for the Seahawks (2-2) were seniors Kyle Walker and Kenny Tarpley. Behind a dominating offensive line, Walker tallied 128 yards on 27 carries.

Tarpley was a playmaker in the second half. Each of his four second-half receptions proved vital, but none more so than his 23-yard TD late in the third quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Mustangs (0-5) got a jolt of life from junior Luis Gomez, who  raced 95 yards untouched to close the scoring gap.  Costa Mesa didn’t score again.
