PLACENTIA - Jesse Sandoval’s 22-yard field goal with 40 seconds remaining in the annual Battle of the Bell allowed Valencia to squeeze past El Dorado, 17-16, on Friday night at Bradford Stadium.

“We just wanted to get that bell back,” Sandoval said.

Valencia (2-1) trailed the Golden Hawks, 13-0, at halftime but didn’t abandon its rushing attack.

Mike Bradley capped a six-play drive with a touchdown leap on a fourth-and-goal midway through the third quarter.

Bradley then scored from 2 yards out to give the Tigers their first lead, 14-13.

El Dorado (1-2) was held in check in the second half with only 39 yards. Kane Wilson completed only one pass in the second half and finished 7 of 23 for 90 yards and an interception.

Chase Lansford reclaimed the Golden Hawks’ lead with a 52-yard field goal with 7:17 remaining.
