Garden Grove wins to secure CIF home game


GARDEN GROVE - Garden Grove finished the regular season with a 55-13 rout of Bolsa Grande on Friday night in a Garden Grove League game at Garden Grove High.

The Argonauts (8-2, 5-0) clinched the league title outright and will be at home for the first round of the CIF playoffs.

Argonauts quarterback Angel Martinez went 14 for 17 passing for 195 yards and five touchdowns.

With 2:37 left in the first quarter, Sione Masoe returned a punt for 57 yards for his second touchdown of the game.

In the second quarter, Martinez found his favorite target, Austen Christian, on three occasions, each resulting in touchdowns.

The third touchdown came as time expired in the first half, extending Garden Grove’s lead to 41-7.

Christian caught five passes for 98 yards.

Receiver Josh Huff finished with two touchdowns on four catches for 80 yards.

The Argonauts held Bolsa Grande (1-9, 0-5) to 104 yards of offense.

The highlight for Bolsa Grande came in the first half when it successfully used a flea-flicker play for 29 yards setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Anthony Porras.
