GARDEN GROVE- Garden Grove kept its Garden Grove League championship hopes alive Friday by defeating Santiago, 10-7, at Garden Grove High.
Lucky Moemoe returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter, and after a goal-line stand by the Garden Grove defense, Julio Suarez added a 36-yard field goal with 3 seconds left in the half to give the Argonauts (8-1, 3-1) all the scoring they would need.
"The ball hit my helmet first, and I said, 'What the heck?'” Moemoe said of his key play. "I got Lucky — after all, that's my name.”
Garden Grove must defeat Rancho Alamitos (2-7, 0-4) on Thursday and hope Santiago (7-2, 3-1) beats Los Amigos (5-4, 4-0) on Friday to force a three-way tie for the league crown.
