GARDEN GROVE - Paul Escamilla put on a variety show Friday in Santiago's Garden Grove League contest against Bolsa Grande.
Escamilla rushed for 113 yards and four touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass, and on defense stripped the ball for a forced fumble and recovery in leading the host Cavaliers to a 42-7 victory over the Matadors at Garden Grove High.
Santiago (6-1, 2-0) broke open a 14-7 game when it recovered a fumble by Bolsa Grande (3-4, 0-2) on the Matadors 36 with 14 seconds left in the first half. Chris Ortega's subsequent TD pass to Missael Lagunas to end the half lifted the Cavaliers to a 21-7 lead.
Escamilla added three second-half touchdowns.
"Bolsa Grande played us really tough, but our kids still came out and responded," Santiago coach Aaron Shahrestani said.
Mikhail Lowery led Bolsa Grande with 76 yards rushing, and Alex Duran added a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
Santiago's Edward Hornsby, who rushed for 93 yards, suffered a neck injury on special teams and was taken to Garden Grove hospital for precautionary reasons, Shahrestani said.
