Talking points: Northeast Division
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Talking points: Northeast Division
AM: SVC wins its first round game by a point, then dominates Mammoth in the second round. What do you make of that?
DA: Strange. Maybe jitters, but SVC has not really played anyone that great: one team that finished with a winning record - Fairmont. But they are 12-0 and they have my respect. Brentwood looks pretty scary for them, however. They have six shutouts, including two in a row.
DA: Oops, SVC has played two teams with a winning record - Mammoth included, of course.
AM: Yeah, I’m looking at those two shutouts by Brentwood and I think this might be a very close game.
DA: SVC is a good story. Chambers is an athlete and his dad is the coach, but on the road this one smells of trouble.
DA: The Alpha League is much stronger than the San Joaquin.
AM: Brendan Chambers has all-county numbers. But I think you have to do it against all-county competition.
DA: No doubt. That’s why I am hoping to catch St Margaret’s on Saturday night. You have to see these guys play in person to get an idea of just how good they are and who they are playing against. But there are no bad teams in the semifinals.
DA: Cal/Mur lost its go-to receiver last week to a collarbone, as if the Tartans needed any more help.
AM: Yeah, that game officially shouldn’t be played. Just kidding.
DA: How about a St Margaret’s-Villa Park nonleague game, assuming Jason Hitchens gets the job there?
AM: That would be interesting for many reasons.
DA: That’d be sweet.
AM: I think St. Margaret’s needs to play a game like that. They gotta start somewhere. And, of course, there’s the potential of a throwdown between the coaches.
DA: Yeah, I think a game like that has to be coming at some point. Welch said they have added Ontario Christian, and that’s one division ahead of him, but we’ll see.
